Subseasonal Modulation of TC Activity
TC genesis and track activity binned by daily 8-phase index. Active days (amplitude ≥ 1) only — quiescent days are excluded. Phase numbering follows Wheeler & Hendon (2004) for MJO and a 45°-sector partition of the (PC1, PC2) plane for BSISO.
TC Activity by Phase
Bars show the number of named-storm genesis events whose first-fix date fell on a day of each phase (amplitude ≥ 1). The dashed ring is the expected count if genesis were uniform across phases — bars outside the ring indicate enhancement, inside indicate suppression.
Rapid Intensification (RI) Rate by Phase
Bars show the fraction of 24-h intensification episodes meeting the Kaplan–DeMaria RI threshold (ΔVmax ≥ 30 kt / 24 h). Dashed ring is the across-all-phases mean — bars above it indicate an RI-favorable phase, below indicate suppressed RI. Click a phase tile in the map panel below to drill in.
Spatial Distribution by Phase 8 panels · 5° bins · click to drill in
Each panel shows the spatial density of 6-hourly best-track fixes (≥ 34 kt) occurring on days of that phase. Density is normalized per panel so the warmest cell in each phase shows the relative concentration regardless of phase-day count.
